Place your trust in Jesus.

These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.

JOHN 20•31

Who is God, that we should trust Him?

We believe that God has made us and all creatures, giving us a body and soul, our reason and all our senses. He daily continues to take care of us, abundantly providing us with such things as clothing, food, home, family, property, animals, and anything else we need to sustain our body and life. He protects us from danger and guards us from evil. He does all this as a father to us, out of His pure and divine love and mercy, without any merit on our part. We respond with our praise, service, and obedience.

Who is Jesus, that we should believe in Him?

We believe that Jesus Christ—true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary—is our Lord. We were lost and condemned creatures, but Jesus has redeemed us. He has purchased and delivered us from sin, death, and the power of the devil, not with gold & silver, but with His holy precious blood and His innocent suffering and death. He is now risen from the dead and lives and reigns to all eternity. Jesus has done all this so that He would be our Lord and we would be His own, living under Him in His kingdom and serving Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness.

How do we know this to be true?

It is not by intellectual reasoning or by our own power that we can believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and come to Him. The Holy Spirit has called us to faith through the Gospel and enlightened us with His gifts. It is the Holy Spirit who sanctifies and keeps us with Jesus Christ in this one true faith, along with the whole Christian church on earth. In Christ’s church, our sins are daily and fully forgiven by God until that day when Christ shall come and raise the dead and give eternal life to us and to all who believe in Him.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
