this certain truth.
“These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.”
THE APOSTLE JOHN • JN 20:31
We believe that God has made us and all creatures;
that He has given us our body and soul, eyes, ears, and all our limbs, our reason, and all our senses, and still preserves them.
He also gives us clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and property, spouse and children, fields, animals, and everything we own. He richly and daily provides us with all that we need to support this body and life, protects us from all danger, and guards us and preserves us from all evil.
He does all this out of pure, fatherly, divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in us. For all of this we owe it to Him to thank, praise, serve, and obey Him.
We believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary, is our Lord;
who has redeemed us, lost and condemned creatures, purchased and won us from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death, in order that we may be His own, and live under Him in His kingdom, and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, just as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns to all eternity.
We believe that we cannot by our own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ as Lord, or come to Him;
but the Holy Spirit calls us by the Gospel, enlightens us with His gifts, sanctifies and keeps us in the true faith, even as He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith.
In that Christian church He daily and richly forgives all our sins and the sins of all believers. On the last day He will raise us and all the dead, and will give eternal life to us and to all believers in Christ.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
