Believe

this most certain truth.

“These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.”

JOHN 20:31

We believe that God has made us and every creature.

God gave us a body and soul, our reason and senses, and He still takes care of us. He richly provides us with everything we need to daily sustain our body and life, like clothing, food, home, family, property, animals, and everything else. He protects us from danger and guards us from evil. All this He does as a father, out of pure, divine love and mercy, without any merit on our part. In return we praise, serve, and obey Him.

We believe that our Lord Jesus Christ is true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the Virgin Mary.

Jesus has redeemed us lost and condemned creatures. He purchased and delivered us from all sin, from death, and from the power of the devil—not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and His innocent suffering and death. He is risen from the dead and lives and reigns to all eternity. All this He has done to be our Lord and that we would be His own, to live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness.

It is not by our own reason or strength that we believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and come to Him.

The Holy Spirit calls us by the Gospel and enlightens us with His gifts. He sanctifies and keeps us with Jesus Christ in this one true faith, along with the whole Christian church on earth.

In this Christian church He daily and fully forgives our sins. On the last day, He will raise us and all the dead and give us and all believers in Christ eternal life.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
